When I started playing golf, I found it hard to choose the right club. I tried several until I realized that using a club that felt comfortable helped me improve my swing quickly.

A golf club has various lengths, shapes, & uses, and each one is suitable for different swings. As a beginner, it’s crucial to stick to the golf swing basics & start with the iron clubs as they are easier to swing. Once you’re more confident, you can start exploring the different clubs & their uses. Make sure to always use a club that you’re comfortable with & one that complements your swing.

Step 2: Grip

Now for the best golf swing tips, it all comes down to how to grip a golf club. The grip is the very foundation of a perfect golf swing for beginners. In fact, according to Michigan Surgery Specialists, gripping the club too tightly or in an incorrect manner can lead to injury and discomfort. So, you must hold it properly. The three most common grips are the overlapping grip, the interlocking grip, & the baseball grip.

  1. The overlapping grip is the most commonly used grip among golfers. It requires you to place your left hand on the club first, placing your left little finger between your right-hand index & middle finger
  2. The interlocking grip requires you to interlock your left index finger with your right little finger
  3. Lastly, the baseball grip, also known as the Ten Finger grip involves placing your hands together on the club & is usually used by beginners.

For me, I prefer the overlapping grip as it provides me with better control & a more comfortable grip.

Keep the knees bent, & the spine straight, & position the ball in line with your left heel. When you approach the ball, your hips should move forward, & your weight should be distributed evenly between both feet.

2. Begin your downswing by turning your hips towards the target.

3. As your hips turn, your club will naturally follow, coming down towards the ball.

4. Your wrists should unhinge as you approach the ball, allowing the club head to make contact with the ball.

Step 6: The Impact

As you make contact with the ball, make sure that your weight is fully shifted onto your left foot (for right-handers). Your hips should be facing toward the target, with your head behind the ball. Your arms should be extended, with the clubhead making solid contact with the ball.

Step 7: The Follow Through

During the follow-through, your momentum carries the clubhead toward the target. Your body should be fully squared up, & your weight should have shifted to your left foot while your hips & shoulders have rotated toward the target

Your right foot should be off the ground, & your right knee should point toward the ball. Your hands should finish high above your left shoulder, & your club should be pointing toward the target.
